Indiana Territory land sale letter, October 15, 1801.

This collection contains a letter written on 15 October 1801 from Susanna Symmes in the Indiana Territory to Mrs. Bell in Hudson, N.Y. There is also a letter dated 10 May 1951 from Elfrieda Lang to Henry A. Meyer regarding the publication of the letter in the Indiana Magazine of History.

Henry Adolf Meyer (1860-1940) was born in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Meyer began his career as a grocer, serving as president of the Retail Grocer's Association of Brooklyn and the Retail Merchants Association of Brooklyn. In 1891, Meyer ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Brooklyn as a Republican.
